The Sunday Salon- February Wrap-up

I'm happy to say that February was a great month of reading for me and as of right now I am on track to hit 100 books this year. I know my reading will slow down in the summer time but for now I am enjoying the colder weather. Although I am about done with the snow :) Anyways, this month I read:

  • Fatal February by Barbara Levenson- This was so-so for me...on one hand I enjoyed the mystery and the main character but I did have some issues with other parts of the story. I ended up liking it but not loving it.

  • Ramses, Volume I: Son of Light by Christian Jacq- I've been wanting to read historical fiction this year and this was a perfect example of why. I LOVED this book and be on the lookout for a review of it this week at some point.

  • Heartstopper by Joy Fielding- Another good thriller from Mrs. Fielding! I'll be looking up her backlist and reading the other books that she has written.

  • The Kingmaking by Helen Hollick- I was sent this book to review and I'm so glad that I had the chance to read it. I'll be sharing a guest post on March 5th as well as my review so be on the lookout for it. Great read!

  • Wicked By Any Other Name by Linda Wisdom- If you remember back, I read and reviewed Hex Appeal by this author and enjoyed it. This is the next in the series and was just as enjoyable as the previous one that I had read. I HAVE to get the 1st book in this series and read it ASAP!

  • Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen- What a fun read! I read this for a bunch of challenges and am definitely going to be continuing on with this series.

  • Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn- This was a reread for me but a great start to this series. I will be reviewing and participating in a blog tour for this series so expect to see this review sometime this week as well. BTW-how do you incorporate YouTube videos into your posts? If someone could comment and let me know that would be great!

So that is it for me. I'm currently reading In The Woods by Tana French which is number 18 for the year. I'm not very far into it but I do like it so far. I'm also working on America and the Age of Genocide. I've learned so much from this book already! I'm behind in reviews as always (I've only reviewed one book for the month of February) but I am determined to catch up. I've also joined the 1% Well Read Challenge and Orbis Terrarum Challenge which is craziness but I'm excited! I'll be by to see all of your posts later today...happy reading :)

  3. You must read Jane Eyre! It would be perfect for your classics challenge! I'm learning alot from The Triumph of Deborah and find that I don't want to put it down! Who knew I'd like Biblical Fiction so much?! Good luck with your goal of 100 books this year. I always look forward to your monthly recap!

  4. I have heard so much about The Kingmaking, I am going to have to add it to my list. My husband absolutely loved the Ramses books by Christian Jacq - he has read them all. I hope you enjoy reading Alice Hoffman this month - we will have to compare notes. I have been told Green Angel and The Ice Queen are her best books.
    Have a great reading week.

  5. Sam,Thanks for commenting on my thoughts about The Wednesday Sisters, I'm glad that you're still going to read it. I never post negative thoughts so that people won't read a certain book, they're just how that particular book made me feel or not as in this case.

your Feb. wrap-up looks pretty interesting! I have a Joy Fielding book just haven't opened it yet,Wicked sounds interesting, and I have Kingmaking on my TBR list for sure!! Into the Woods is another that I'm looking forward to reading!! Great post!!

  6. Thanks for visiting today. You have some good books on your list and I will have check them out. I'm considering the 1% challenge because it looks like some of the books match up with ones I'm going to be reading anyway. But should probably stretch and pick some I don't have on a current list. Happy Reading

  9. Hooray for great reading months!

I've heard great things about Into the Woods. It's not the kind of book I normally pick up, but some of the reviews I've seen made it sound irresistible.

  10. You had a good reading month too, good for you. I had French's book and didn't get to it before it had to be returned to the library. I keep hearing that it's good so I should get it again. I'm doing the 1% challenge and the Orbis Terrarum too. That last one was my favourite last year, I finished it easily. Happy reading in March.

  11. Tapestry- How funny! It sounds like you are doing better at it then I am though :)

Kristy- 3 days can make all of the difference, can't it? LOL!

    Naida- Thanks!

Lisa- I'll definitely have to use it then...I also have Wuthering Heights on my shelf which I need to get to soon...I'm bad about classics.

Scrap Girl- We will definitely have to compare notes. I'm looking forward to continuing on with the Ramses series.

Staci- I highly recommend The Kingmaking so I hope you enjoy that one. I will be posting my review this week at some point.

Robin- I think that I can overlap with some challenges as well but this one will push my boundaries a bit which is why I joined it :)

    Yvonne- Thank you!

Kara- You rock! I've been wondering how I could do it. If I figure it out you'll know..THANKS!

Nymeth- That is one of the reasons that I picked it up...I've heard great reviews for it. It is good so far :)

Sandra- I'm excited about both challenges as they will stretch my reading a bit. It helps me so I don't burn out of any one genre.

  13. Sounds like you had a great reading month - yay.

Isn't In The Woods great? One of my favorite reads last year. And, I'm glad to hear you liked Her Royal Spyness. I've been wondering about that one.

  16. Embedding YouTube videos or any videos is very simple. Wherever it says "embed" just copy all those weird letters and place them on your blog using the "edit Html" thing on your blogger.

  17. Bellezza- I haven't read any of Fielding's older stuff :) Actually, this was only my 2nd book by her but I really liked it.

Iliana- I am really enjoying In The Woods. The author is creating a really creepy atmosphere and I can't help but wonder how it will all turn out.

Dar- Thanks! I did have a pretty great month :)

Tanabata- I will be interested to hear your thoughts if you read In The Woods...I'm finding it really good so far.

Ladytink- Thank you, thank you! It makes it sound very simple so hopefully I can figure it out. LOL!

  18. What a great month, Sam! I can't believe we're already halfway through March (shows you how far behind I am in my google reader!). I've heard a lot about Joy Fielding but haven't read anything by her. Mostly thrillers?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Trish- Yes, I believe that Fielding is thrillers only. She keeps me guessing which is one of the reasons why I enjoy her so much. March is flying by just as fast as February did :)
